Cooper conducts walking history tours of Charleston at Chucktown Walking Tours, where we boast a team of exceptional guides dedicated to enlightening our guests about the rich history of this captivating colonial town. As the most requested historian, Cooper stands out for his extensive experience, his passion for history, and his ability to make people laugh.
Originally hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, Cooper is one of seven siblings born into an Air Force family. His father, a professor, influenced Cooper and most of his six siblings to pursue careers in academia. Before settling in Charleston fifteen years ago, Cooper worked as an engineer on classified intelligence programs for the National Security Agency (NSA). Following in the footsteps of his siblings, Cooper felt the allure of higher education and transitioned to a teaching role at the University of South Carolina.
Today, Cooper is a highly esteemed historian, sharing lesser-known aspects of history that often go unnoticed. His engaging storytelling style brings Charleston's history to life by incorporating those intriguing facts into the fabric of the story, in a fun, sometimes irreverent way.
Notably, in addition to his three college degrees, and thousands of hours teaching history. Cooper holds the distinction of being the sole history guide in Charleston ever to receive a $1000.00 cash tip — an accomplishment he has achieved three times.
