The Weather Forecast

Savannah Weather is one of the many reasons visitors love this historic Southern city. With a humid subtropical climate, Charleston experiences hot summers, mild winters, and pleasant spring and fall seasons.

Temperatures near the beach are always a little cooler than even a few miles away. Visiting Tybee Island and you will find the winds off the ocean cause a noticeable difference. Summer temperatures in the Savannah area often reach the high 80s to mid-90s, with high humidity and occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Hurricane season runs from June to November, so it’s important to check forecasts if visiting during that time.

Fall brings cooler, more comfortable temperatures, making it an ideal season for exploring. Winters in Savannah are mild, with average highs in the 50s and 60s, though occasional cold snaps can occur. Spring is one of the best times to visit, with blooming flowers, warm days, and low humidity.

No matter when you visit, Savannah’s Weather is generally pleasant, but packing accordingly—light clothing for summer and a jacket for winter—will ensure a comfortable experience while exploring this charming city.

The Drive From Savannah

To many the drive between Charleston and Savannah is, in a word, Boring. However, to others the drive to Savannah is a beautiful and easy trip, taking about two hours along U.S. Highway 17. This scenic route offers travelers a glimpse of the Lowcountry’s marshlands, historic towns, and stunning coastal views.

Leaving Charleston, drivers head towards charming small towns like Hardeeville and Ridgeland. Along the way, Beaufort is a popular stop, known for its antebellum homes and waterfront charm. The drive also winds past beautiful oak-lined roads and tidal creeks, making it a peaceful journey.

Travelers often take detours to visit attractions like Edisto Island or stop at roadside seafood spots for fresh shrimp and oysters. As you leave Charleston, the scenery becomes even more picturesque, with historic plantations and scenic rivers.

The trick is to stay off the major roads and wind your way through the more rural areas. We recommend leaving Charleston early, make your way through the back roads, arrive in Savannah late afternoon, spend the evening and the next day exploring Savannah, then head back to Charleston on the highway.

Scott was great! It's hard to please three generations of family members, but Scott was able to do just that. Each one of us found the history lessons fascinating, funny and surprising. The hours went by very quickly. It wasn't too far for the grandmas and was entertaining enough for the teenagers!

Cooper at Chucktown tours was a wonderful tour guide! He shared many details that we would never have learned on our own. The slave trade history was especially interesting and different than what we thought it would be. We definitely recommend this tour, wear comfy shoes!

The best tour we have ever been on, even after visiting 34+ countries. It should cost triple per person. Cooper is a historian in tennis shoes for 3 hours. There literally wasn’t a question we could think of about the historic district of Charleston that not only could he answer, but he would usually add 2-3 more fun facts and additional context every time.
